World of Warcraft Beginner PVP Guide – Hunters

Player versus player encounters in World of Warcraft is often a difficult and painful experience for newbie players. Other players offer little help and can be brutal in battle and chat. This guide will help new players understand basic player versus player strategies and specs for the Hunter class.

    Hunters are a powerful PVP (Player versus Player) class with many PVP oriented abilities. They are able to hold their own and outright dominate some other classes, especially if played right. Having the proper talent point spec has a great bearing on a Hunters ability to battle other classes in PVP.

    Specs

    Beast Mastery, while originally a PVE (Player versus Environment) talent tree, has recently crossed the border into arguably the most powerful PVP Spec. The Bestial Wrath and The Beast Within talents are simply dominating. The Hunters pet is able to do a massive amount of damage, and simply cannot be stopped. In addition to this, the Hunter is dealing increased damage and is able to kite, and also cannot be stopped. Most classes, especially Mages, Priests and Warlocks, will have absolutely no defense for this.

    Survival is mostly considered a PVE talent tree, especially modified for raids and groups. Survival Hunters should mainly consider using many traps to keep enemies away from them. Gaining a huge distance, and using Aimed Shot to devastate their enemies from afar.

    Marksmanship is a huge damage dealing talent tree, and mainly augments the Hunters considerable ranged DPS (Damage per Second). Most of the talents augment critical strike damage, critical strike chance and attack power. Silencing Shot is excellent when facing caster enemies, especially to interrupt attempted heals. A Hunter in this tree is able to destroy enemies from afar, and can easily stand in the back row and rack up many Killing Blows.

    Duels

    Traps are a necessity when dueling, and should be used every time the ability is ready. Well placed traps can stop any class dead in it’s tracks and give the Hunter the chance to get range and devastate the enemy with powerful ranged attack shots. One of the most important things for a Hunter to remember is to stay as far away from any class as possible. Melee classes can’t attack from a distance and caster classes can’t get any spells off due to the barrage of ranged and pet attacks. The only exception to this is other Hunters, which are more tricky than other classes. Try planting Freezing Traps directly under the enemy or kiting him into one. This can allow the Hunter to get a good an Aimed Shot and some Steady Shots in before the Hunter can react.

    World PVP

    When a Hunter gets the jump on an enemy in World PVP, it’s almost always game over. Hunters with the chance to use Aimed Shot, Multi-Shot, Arcane Shot and Steady Shot before the enemy gets a chance to turn around, let alone finish battling the NPC (Non-Player Character) they’re fighting, it’s almost impossible to recover from. With a Hunters Track Humanoid ability, they are almost never caught by surprise.

    When they are, as is normal, it’s hard for them to get back in the flow of battle, but because of their Traps and intense ranged damage, it’s not impossible to recover and come back to win the encounter.

    Battlegrounds

    In Battlegrounds, Hunters can provide a head start to group members with the Aspect of the Pack ability. This allows numerous raid members to get farther ahead and can sometimes make the difference between a win and a loss. The main role of Hunters in battlegrounds is to kill, kill and kill. Battlegrounds boast many hiding places that allow Hunters to rain death over entire groups of players.

    Hunters are almost always among the leaders in Killing Blows. They are able to hide behind the powerful Warriors and other melee classes and shoot their devastating shots into groups of people. Their pets are also capable of dealing damage and causing chaos, especially against cloth wearing caster characters.
